Curzon bounce back first time
 Women's Football News 4 Jun 2008

Curzon Ashton turned a negative into a positive this season as they recovered in brilliant style from last year's relegation from the Premier League to win the Northern Combination title and return to the Northern Division at the first attempt.

However this does not tell the full story as Curzon dominated the league from start to finish, establishing an early lead and going to to win the title by a huge margin of 15 points, having won all of their opening 18 league matches, and scoring an impressive 90 goals in the process.

Such was the gap at the top of the table, Curzon actually clinched the Championship as early as March 2nd following their 2-0 victory over Chester City at their impressive Tameside Stadium.

Leanne Skarratt finished as leading scorer with a haul of 34 goals, breaking a club record in the process, but there have been many important contributions to the team in their Championship success, including club stalwarts Emma Gaynon and captain Joanne Holt, whilst the likes of Gemma Adderley, Rhaine Mitchell, Amy Barrett and goalkeeper Shauna Thornhill have all had good seasons.

Manager Dave Ryan deserves a huge part of the credit for the upturn in the club's fortunes but he has decided to step down from the job at the end of this season. A new manager will be appointed for the start of next season as Curzon embark on their second spell in the Premier League with a young, vibrant side who will have a point to prove.
