When you run a tournament for the first time you expect one or two hiccups along the way, but unfortunately for Curzon Ashton, an accident in which all the winners' trophies were smashed to bits was an accident difficult to foresee. But to the credit of all the teams involved in the presentation, they took it in good sprit and of course replacements have been ordered and will be passed on. Whilst all the trophies were on display and the presentation was just about to start at the top of the stand, with winners and runners-up and some semi finalists as well, eager to receive their rewards for a day of very competitive tournament football, a roller shutter was activated and flipped the table the trophies were displayed on. All of the medals and winners' individual trophies were okay but all of the large team trophies were beyond repair. The event of girls and ladies football was a massive success in terms of quality of football, effort and commitment of players, managers and parents. The weather was dull but didn't dampen the girls' sprit which was excellent and made for a great atmosphere in all groups. The Under-10 section winners, in a tight final, were Manchester City with Preston North End runners-up from the cruel penalty shootout which decided it. The Under-12 section was taken by host team Curzon Ashton Pumas, 2-1 in a hard fought final with Moston Valley, whilst the Under-14 section had Curzon Ashton cheering again with Preston North End runners-up, both Curzon and Preston playing against their own teams in the semi finals. In the Under-16s, Preston North End came out on top with Burnley runners-up this time. The Ladies final was an all-Curzon affair with the Curzon Allstars pipping the Curzon Ashton team in extra time. On behalf of Curzon Ashton Ladies and Girls, we would like to thank all participants and volunteer organizers from each club for their outstanding behaviour, attitude, help and understanding in making the event a success. Lessons will be learnt and improvements will make next year's tournament bigger and better - well done everyone! | |||||||||||||||||
