Fourth promotion for Leicester
 Women's Football News 6 Jun 2008

Season 2007-08 has certainly been the turning point for the Leicester City Women's FC with a multitude of successes to boast about.

The team have now gained their fourth successive promotion, winning the Midland Combination which now means they have progressed through every league at the first attempt and will now be looking to compete in the FA Tesco Women's Premier Northern Division next season.

Along with this they retained the Leicestershire County Cup after finishing off Loughborough Students in a battle at Hinckley United that went to extra time. On top of this, a lot of effort was put into the F.A.Women's Cup which saw the team go against the odds and knock out Nottingham Forest and Millwall Lionesses to reach the Fifth Round, where they were beaten 3-0 by Everton in front of a crowd in excess of 300. Leicester also reached the Final of the League Cup but could not secure a third trophy, going down 4-0 to an inspired Derby County side. The City reserves have also managed Runners up in their League showing a real depth in City's squad for the future.

It is also worth a mention that City's players have really shone this year as individuals as well as a team. Both senior goalkeepers have had involvement with England, youngster Sophie Le Gros attended a training camp with the under-19s and Laura Niblett was on standby for fixtures with the under-23s and still has two years to make her mark at that age group. Frequent attendees of international football have been Rachel Williams at under-23 level and captain Remi Allen with the under-19s. The pair have had a fantastic year, gaining several appearances and having an awful lot to work towards with the UEFA Under-19 Championships coming up for Remi in the summer, and both are eligible for the Under-20 World Cup in Chile later this year.

First team Manager Rehanne Skinner said, "It has been a very long season for us this year but one with many rewards. Winning the double again was fantastic and our FA Cup run was brilliant as it gave the players a real buzz. The players have shown tremendous character and passion for the club and I can't fault that all year."

With new facilities being built at the moment and a superb home facility at Winchester Road in Blaby, the team is set to continue their push to be one of the best teams in the Country and are now into the top 36 in four short years.
