Reading FC Women have been nominated to play in the Northern Division of the Premier League for the 2008-09 season. The Royals were expecting to compete in the Southern Division of the second tier of women's football after their brilliant South West Combination title-winning campaign last season. But with two southern teams being relegated from the Premier League - Charlton Athletic and Cardiff City - the decision was made by a vote at an AGM two weeks ago and Reading missed out on the nomination to the Southern Division. Reading's Director of Women's Football, Lee Herron said, "Whilst we were not entirely happy with the way this issue was handled, we are looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Northern Division. "There are some fantastic teams in this league such as Newcastle United, Sunderland and Manchester City and we feel there are some big benefits in us playing in the Northern section. "We will stay overnight as a squad for nine of our 11 away fixtures, something the players will need to get used to if we hope to reach the top level of the women's game. "I have had nothing but overwhelmingly positive feedback from the players so far - they can't wait for the season to begin." Reading will return to their pre-season training on June 29. Herron added, "We have been recruiting some exciting new players over the summer and we have high hopes for another successful campaign."
