Essex County Girls League's outgoing Secretary Mark Hargrave fears the competition could face closure if a replacement cannot be attracted ahead of the new season, with over a thousand girls across the County potentially being left disappointed. Hargrave, who will move on from the League shortly due to personal circumstances, is aware the current lack of volunteers in football could have its harshest effect on the competition he has served for a number of years, explaining: "It's a sensitive point and we don't want to use shock tactics, but the League genuinely could close down if we don't find another secretary." Roles covered by the position include helping to compile the constitution, preparing the Handbook and dealing with incoming and outgoing correspondence from clubs and the Essex County Football Association, and Hargrave is certain there are candidates locally who could do the job proud. "The new secretary doesn't even need to be a historically football-loving person, although it would be a distinct advantage," he added. "We just need someone to come forward and stop well over a hundred teams from having to consider whether they can compete again next season." Mark is also aware any incoming officer would have the full support of the experienced Committee, as well as benefiting from full training. He concluded: "I've had many years of fulfillment knowing I'm helping so many young girls play our national game and it's great to get out and watch some of the games, including our own Cup Finals Day.
