England to take on World Champions
 Women's Football News 23 Jun 2008

Hope Powell takes her England squad to Germany next month for a friendly with the reigning World and European Champions on 17 July in Unterhaching.

England ended the season with a fine 6-1 victory away to Belarus, and will now take on Silvia Neid's side as they prepare for the final two qualifiers in their bid to reach Euro 2009 in Finland.

Powell's side have faced Germany on a number of occasions in recent years, and have forced impressive draws in the two most recent meetings. At the China Cup last January, and during the World Cup in September, England drew 0-0.

The performance during the World Cup group stage was all the more remarkable by the fact that Germany would win every other match they played during the tournament, on their way to becoming the first side to retain the World Cup.

Germany recently became the first country to qualify for next year's UEFA Women's Championships in Finland and beat Wales 4-0 in their last outing.
