"We are contenders for the title" - Charlotte

Charlotte King struck ten goals for Bristol City last term in only her second season in senior women's football and the 16-year-old striker added to her growing reputation last Sunday by scoring two outstanding goals in City's 2-1 win over Portsmouth, condemning Pompey to their first defeat in league football since April 2002.

Speaking to Women's Soccer Scene, Charlotte is approaching the season ahead with great confidence: "I was pleased to get the goals, my first of the season and hopefully I can carry on. I was quite pleased with the performance I put in and the goals themselves - they were quality goals I thought personally, scored with both feet!

"I think we are contenders for the title and to move up but there are top quality teams like Ipswich and Southampton still there, so we've got to keep going and carry on from the performance we gave on Sunday."

Charlotte is one of the new intake this season at the Bristol City Football Academy, which sees the girls train daily alongside the club's F.A. licensed academy with the same facilities and education. There are now nine girls at the academy with three having been attending for a year, including City's highly rated midfielder Katy Little. Has she noticed any difference in the few weeks she has been there? "Definitely, my fitness levels are higher, and just being able to play football more than before is increasing my performance in the game."

Next up for City this Sunday is a difficult trip to Brighton & Hove Albion at the Withdean Stadium. "I'm looking forward to taking on Brighton, it will be a challenge with them having been in the National Division last season but we're up for it."
