Whilst Arsenal's first team chase the possibility of winning two trophies, their reserves completed the League and Cup 'double' by winning the Reserve Section League Cup Final 5-1 against Birmingham City, to avenge their defeat by the Blues in the corresponding match last year. The game started a little nervously but it was Carol Harwood's side who took the lead, when Eleri Earnshaw slotted home following a Lisa Burrows corner. Birmingham responded well to going a goal behind and drew level through a goal from Hozzanna Parnell, but Arsenal struck a huge blow just before half time when Veronica Phewa put them back in front by driving home from 25 yards. After half time, Arsenal began to take control against a plucky Birmingham side and doubled their advantage when Phewa scored her second goal. Toni Carelse made it 4-1 with another powerful finish from the edge of the area and another clinical finish from Dunia Susi completed the scoring. Arsenal had been presented with the Southern Division One Trophy prior to the match and the win rounded off a very successful season for the Gunners at reserve team level.
