Jayne Ludlow was naturally delighted on being voted as Player's Player of the Year for the third time in four seasons at the National Women's Football Awards on Friday. Speaking to Women's Soccer Scene after the presentation, Jayne said: "Its a great, I would say end of the season but there's one game left, but it's a great feeling to be appreciated by all my fellow players and you appreciate it more every time it happens. I'm thankful to all who voted for me."For Jayne, the award completes a memorable few days, after the F.A.Women's Cup triumph. "It's been a great week, to be honest I'm trying to recover a bit from Monday and celebrating afterwards! I said to Faye (White) after the game that this meant more to me than three years ago when we won the treble, probably because we hadn't won anything last year. The team played well and peaked at the right time so it was even more enjoyable this time." There is still one more game to come for Arsenal - this Saturday's title showdown with Fulham. "We're so focused on the Fulham game and hopefully we'll play as well as we did last Monday and get a result. We can't underestimate Fulham, they're a class outfit but we're going to do our best and hopefully get a win." And as a bonus, the match will be played at Highbury. "If you can't play on that pitch you can't play anyhwere, it's like a carpet! I can't wait." Julie Fleeting has taken many plaudits in recent weeks but Jayne is eager to point out that it is been an all round team effort. "We did well early in the season before Julie arrived - Ellen Maggs and Lianne Sanderson did well up front and so did Alex Scott when she played, in fact I could name all the team but obviously Julie added something to us when she arrived." Final praise was reserved for new England recruit, defender Anita Asante. "Anita is very strong, she's one player I would not like to come up against in a game! She is a superb player and still one for the future as she's only 19. I'm looking forward to playing with her for years to come." | |||||||||||||||||||||
